Do Nothing

The act of not doing is often an act of courage. There is bravery in simply letting things be as they are. God has given us permission to rest in Him, yet so often we resist like a tired, cranky toddler fighting sleep.

As parents, we wrestle with a small child refusing a nap and think, How do you not know how good rest will feel? We know, as mother or father, what brings peace. We see their exhaustion, their frustration, and their needless fight against the very thing that would restore them.

How often are we no different with God?

Our man-made self—our ego, our need for control—struggles to let go. We keep doing, fixing, forcing, and resisting. We convince ourselves that peace must be earned through effort, when often peace is found in surrender.

God is not always asking us to do more. Sometimes He is asking us to trust more.

To sit still.
To stop wrestling.
To release the need to control outcomes.
To rest.

Yet with every layer of unrest, we grow more agitated, more exhausted, and further from the peace we are seeking. We fight the very grace meant to restore us.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Stillness is not weakness. It is faith. It is trusting that God is working, even when we are not. Sometimes the holiest thing we can do is nothing at all—except trust.

Peace often begins where striving ends.

Prayer

Lord, teach me the courage of stillness. Help me to stop fighting what You are asking me to surrender. Quiet my restless heart and remind me that I do not have to control everything. Let me rest in Your peace, trust in Your timing, and find strength in simply being still with You. Amen.
