There is something beautiful about a flame.
It burns brightly, steady and warm, giving light to everything around it. But what is most remarkable about a flame is this — when it lights another candle, it loses nothing of itself.
The flame remains just as bright.
This simple truth carries a deeper lesson for the life we are called to live. So often the world teaches scarcity: protect what you have, guard your time, your energy, your attention. But the Kingdom of God works in a different way. In God's economy, giving light does not diminish your own — it multiplies it.
To be in service to others is not to drain ourselves, but to participate in something sacred.
When we help another person, when we lift someone who is struggling, when we offer encouragement, patience, or kindness, we are doing something more than a good deed. We are tending to one of God's children. And when we begin to see people this way — not as strangers, not as burdens, but as brothers and sisters created by the same loving Father — service becomes something entirely different.
It becomes joy.
Jesus reminded us of this in a simple but powerful way:
"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
— Matthew 5:16
Notice what He did not say. He did not say hide your light, or guard it carefully. He said let it shine.
Helping others shine does not dim our own flame. In truth, it reveals the source of it. The light we carry was never ours alone to begin with — it was given to us by God so it could be shared.
And when we live this way, something remarkable happens. The world becomes a little brighter. One small act of kindness lights another. One word of encouragement sparks hope. One act of service reminds someone that they are seen, valued, and loved.
Just like a candle lighting another candle, the light spreads.
And before long, what began as a single flame becomes something far greater — a room filled with light.
So today, wherever you go, remember this simple truth: helping others shine will never dim your flame.
It simply reminds the world where the light comes from.
Closing Prayer
Father,
Thank You for the light You have placed within us.
Help us to share it freely, to serve others with joyful hearts, and to see every person as one of Your beloved children.
May our lives reflect Your love so brightly that others are warmed by it.
Amen.
