Listen to the Rain

This morning, I had the simple pleasure of listening to the rain as I meditated and prayed. An open window beside my easy chair was all it took. No music. No television. No phone. Just the natural sound that only God could provide—the steady landing of raindrops, cleansing what they touch while quietly feeding the earth beneath them.

It reminded me of what it means to listen for God.

Rain can be subtle, yet it is steady. You don't have to search for it; you simply have to become quiet enough to hear it. But it can easily be drowned out by the television, by scrolling on my phone, by my thoughts, worries, plans, and the endless noise of this world.

God whispers while the world shouts.

I needed that reminder today because I have loved ones who are struggling, and my faith is being tested. Do I rush in and try to fix everything? Do I step back and pray? Maybe love sometimes requires a mixture of both—the wisdom to know when to act and the faith to know when to surrender.

What I do know is that God's will remains God's will, whether I understand it today or someday beyond this life. The story is never over simply because I cannot see the next chapter. Perhaps my responsibility isn't always to understand what is happening, but to remain present enough to see what God is showing me—trusting that what is placed before us may have a significance far beyond what makes sense today.

So today, I pray to observe and not absorb.

To witness the small miracle of rain without needing anything from it. To inhale the scent of the wet earth. To slow from a walk to a crawl, from a crawl to a stop—and simply know:

God, You are here.

My mind will challenge the silence. It will tell me to move, to fix, to contemplate, to predict, and especially to worry.

But the rain reminds me otherwise.

One drop after another.

Steady. Patient. Unhurried.

The rain does not worry about where it lands. It simply falls. It nourishes. It cleanses. It continues.

And maybe that is God's message for me this morning: Be still. Trust Me. Listen.

Because beneath all the noise, all the uncertainty, and all the things I cannot control, God's love remains like the rain—

constant, cleansing, life-giving, and everlasting.

"Be still, and know that I am God."
— Psalm 46:10
