Resting in the Midst of It All

Today on the golf course, I saw an Egyptian Goose sleeping just a few feet from me. People moved all around him. Golf carts passed by. Conversations carried through the air. Life continued in motion, yet this beautiful animal rested peacefully in the middle of it all.

Its head tucked gently beneath its wing, completely still, completely at ease.

I found myself quietly saying, “God, this beautiful animal sits so calmly just a couple feet from me. Tell me what You want me to see.”

And what I saw was trust.

I saw calm.

I saw a creature resting within creation without trying to control it.

The goose did not seem concerned with who walked by, what noise surrounded it, or what might happen next. It simply rested in the moment it was given. There was no resistance in it. No striving. No visible fear. Just peace.

How often do we, as people, lose ourselves in the noise around us? We carry tomorrow before it arrives. We replay yesterday after it has already passed. Our minds move constantly, trying to prepare, protect, predict, and control.

Yet there on the grass was this silent reminder from God:
Creation already knows how to trust Him.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:26

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Lord, teach me the calm of the resting bird.
In the noise of life, let my spirit remain still within You.
Where my mind reaches for control, replace it with trust.
Where fear tries to take hold, remind me that You are already present there.

Help me rest in this moment You have given me, knowing Your hand sustains all things — including me.

Amen.
