The Humble Servant

Matthew 23:11–12
“The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

We spend so much of our lives collecting—titles, possessions, and praise—forgetting that none of these things will follow us beyond this world. What endures is how we loved and how we served. True greatness isn’t found in what we own or achieve, but in how willingly we stoop to lift another. In God’s eyes, the humble servant stands tallest, and the quiet giver leaves the deepest mark.

Gracious God,

Teach me today what it means to serve. Not as the world defines service—for recognition or reward—but as You modeled through Christ, who knelt to wash the feet of His disciples.
Let every act I perform be an offering of love, not a pursuit of praise. Help me to remember that greatness in Your Kingdom is measured not by status or possessions, but by the depth of one’s humility and compassion.

Remind me that everything I possess—every gift, talent, and treasure—belongs not to me, but to You. All these things will remain when my time here is done, but the love I give, the mercy I show, and the service I render will echo in eternity.

Strip away my pride, Lord, and replace it with a heart that seeks only to lift others.
Let me be content with less of the world, and more of You.
May I walk in quiet obedience, trusting that in Your time, the humble will be raised, and the servant will be blessed.

Peace be to God.
