What Does It Mean to Be Still?

Exodus 14:14 – “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

The word still comes from the Middle English stillen, derived from the Old English stillan, meaning “to be still, to have rest,” and also “to quiet, to calm.”

At its core, stillness is an act of faith. It does not require striving or action—only steadfast belief. Life unfolds before us, events move around us, yet not everything demands our participation.

Our natural instinct is to intervene—through our thoughts, emotions, words, and actions. But God does not need a supervisor. His will is His will.

Simply be still. Do not allow your mind to wander on unnecessary journeys. Be quiet, be present, and witness the glory of God unfolding before you.

I love you, my brother. More importantly, God loves you. Be still.
