Have you ever noticed a flower growing from a crack in the freeway, or a plant sprouting in the most unlikely place? That’s because that plant didn’t care about its origin, or the difficulty of its path toward the light.
All vegetation begins in dirt — one of the most overlooked and humble elements on earth. But a plant doesn’t question the quality of the soil or the harshness of its environment. It simply knows it must grow. It takes the good — the water and the sunlight — and fulfills its purpose.
We, on the other hand, often wait for the perfect moment. We think everything needs to be just right before we can move forward, like all the traffic lights of life have to be green before we even leave the house.
But God doesn’t need perfect surroundings. He simply wants your attention, and to be invited into your life.
I’ve seen it firsthand — people who have wrecked their lives and hurt those around them, who still managed to rise. Even in a broken, messy state, they chose to face the light of God. And through that decision, they became God-fearing, respectable human beings.
They didn’t care that they were lying in the dirt. One day, they simply got up, looked toward the light, and said, “Let’s go.” and in God they did.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
