Freedom on My Knees

The day was dark, but the sun still shined.

My mood was somber, yet I still smiled.

The hours dragged on as time stood still,

Just twelve more hours until sleep would fill.

Avoiding the truth of the way that I felt,

Out of options, on my knees I knelt.

“Oh God, oh God… why have you forsaken me?”

To my surprise, the answer came simply:

Oh John… you have always been free.

To God’s will I made my way and lifted my eyes,

Up toward heaven—for the blind, the broken… and other guy.
