One of my natural tendencies is impatience. When it takes hold, my whole perspective begins to change. Irritation rises, frustration follows, and suddenly the few minutes I'm losing feel far too valuable to waste.
Lately, I've been wondering if I've been looking at those moments all wrong.
Maybe the pause is an invitation to pray.
Maybe when we're brought to a halt—standing in line at the grocery store, sitting in traffic, waiting to pass through airport security, or stuck in a situation moving slower than we'd like—God is offering us an opportunity rather than an inconvenience.
What if the delay isn't wasted time at all?
What if it's a chance to be still, to offer a prayer for someone we love, to thank God for what we have, or simply to sit in His presence for a moment?
I've found that when I turn my frustration into prayer, the pause doesn't change, but I do. The waiting becomes easier, my perspective softens, and what felt like an interruption becomes a reminder that my time ultimately belongs to God anyway.
The next time life puts you on hold, consider praying in the pause. You may discover that God has been waiting there all along.
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." — Isaiah 40:31
Waiting is rarely easy, but perhaps God never intended it to be empty. Perhaps the pause is where strength is renewed, perspective is restored, and our hearts are drawn back to Him.
Prayer
Lord, when impatience begins to rise within me, remind me that every pause can become a prayer. Help me see delays not as interruptions, but as invitations to draw closer to You. Renew my strength as I wait, quiet my restless heart, and teach me to trust Your timing over my own. May I find Your presence in the pause and Your peace in the waiting. Amen.
