I have never thought my way out of anxiety.
I have tried. I have replayed conversations, imagined every outcome, and searched for the one answer that would finally make me feel safe. Sometimes I tell myself that if I think long enough, I can prevent something painful from happening. But the more I try to control what I cannot know, the louder my mind becomes.
There is a difference between preparing for what is in front of me and trying to carry every possible tomorrow. Preparation helps me take action. Anxiety keeps asking for a guarantee no amount of thinking can give.
God does not always give me the whole picture. Often, He gives me enough light for the next step and invites me to trust Him with the rest.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5
That verse does not ask me to stop thinking or pretend my concerns are small. It reminds me that my understanding has limits, while God’s care does not. I can make a wise decision, have the hard conversation, or do what is mine to do today. Then I can place the outcome in His hands.
When anxiety asks, “What if everything goes wrong?” I can answer, “Whatever comes, I will not face it alone.” I may still feel uncertain. I may need to bring the same worry to God more than once. Each time I do, I am practicing trust.
Trust is not the certainty that life will unfold exactly as I hope. It is the confidence that God will be with me as it unfolds. My mind can keep demanding answers, but my soul can choose to rest in the One who knows the way.
Prayer: Lord, You know how quickly my mind runs ahead of me. When I search for certainty and find only more fear, help me return to You. Show me what is mine to do today, and help me release what belongs in Your hands. Give me peace for this moment, courage for the next step, and confidence in Your presence. Amen.
