I was a child when I first heard the phrase Sí se puede. Raised Catholic in a predominantly Hispanic parish, I often heard it during calls to prayer for those who were struggling, suffering, or in need. The literal translation is simple: "Yes, it can be done." But among the faithful, it carried a deeper meaning: "With God's help, it is possible."
As I've grown older, I've come to see that the promise of Sí se puede is not limited to miracles or favorable outcomes. It is a testament to the power of with God. Yes, all things are possible with God, but the greater truth is that whatever comes our way, with God is better.
When a loved one grows ill, when a heartbreaking loss occurs, when life unfolds in ways we never would have chosen, God's presence does not guarantee the outcome we desire. What it does guarantee is that we do not walk through it alone. The miracle is not always healing. The miracle is not always overcoming. Sometimes the miracle is God's peace in the midst of uncertainty, His strength in our weakness, and His presence in our pain.
My wife often says, "All will be well”, and you know what, it already is. There is deep wisdom in those words. I believe God answers every prayer. Sometimes the answer is yes. Sometimes it is no. Sometimes it is wait. And sometimes it arrives in a way we never expected. Yet in every answer, nothing is truly lost, because the story has already been written by hands far wiser than our own.
Jesus reminds us:
"With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
— Matthew 19:26
Our hope is not rooted in the circumstances of this world, but in the promise of eternity. We believe in Jesus Christ. We trust in His goodness. We rejoice in the miracle of salvation already given to us. The greatest gift is not that God grants every request exactly as we ask. The greatest gift is that He is with us through it all.
And because of that, whether life brings joy or sorrow, victory or struggle, we can say with confidence:
Sí se puede. With God, all things are possible. And with God, all things are better.
